Allwetterbobbahn Eibenstock (2015)

Early in the morning I set off for Eibenstock in the beautiful Ore Mountains to test the Allwetterbobbahn Eibenstock in the Wurzelrudis Erlebniswelt, consisting of a summer tubing track, small animal enclosures, playgrounds and a larger maze. As the first passenger of the day, shortly before the actual opening of the ride, it was time to head towards the lift hill.

Now, halfway parallel to the new chair lift and the drag lift next door, the Allwetterbobbahn Eibenstock takes you up the mountain. You leave the lift hill in a short left-hand bend, whereupon you increase your speed on a longer straight section. After a wide left-hand bend, you take off a little from your seat on a small drop, followed by a right-hand bend and then a zigzag curve. This course is repeated after a turn. Now three serpentine curves follow before you take off again on another jump. Less imaginative are further hairpin bends, whereupon after a final jump the station is almost reached.

Allwetterbobbahn Eibenstock • Wiegand Alpine Coaster

The Allwetterbobbahn Eibenstock is a nice Alpine Coaster ride without a major highlight, but with a great view of the community below. I also found the sleds with their two-point belts relatively comfortable, especially as they made the entry a little easier compared to the conventional bobs with three-point belts.

Rodelbahn Petersberg (2015)

Petersberg near Halle (Saale) is a thoroughly strange place. Beside the toboggan run Rodelbahn Petersberg you can find here a high ropes course, the zoo Petersberg and a huge fairground, which is also the reason for the many parking lots around it. At the time of the visit all hell was breaking loose in Petersberg, so it was not easy to get to one of the parking lots, especially as the local visitors are not necessarily the best drivers. During the Krammarkt, three Euros were charged for parking, a proud price, after all I wasn’t particularly interested in the goods advertised here, and apart from the noodle dealer from the Hamburg fish market, there wasn’t much that should have kept you at the stands.

The Rodelbahn Petersberg is located directly on the path on the other side of the road. After you have paid for the ride, you can start immediately. Through a dense forest with partly interesting footbridge constructions along the way you climb up the lift.

At the top, you leave it in a small right-hand bend, whereupon you immediately increase your speed. After a further right turn and a change of direction, you instantly make a downward helix to the right. Shortly afterwards you race over a small gradient, whereupon only two left and right turns alternate. After that, the more than respectable, even if quite short, ride ends.

Sommer- und Winterrodelbahn Wippra (2015)

When I last visited Wippra the Sommer- und Winterrodelbahn Wippra was unfortunately closed for technical reasons. On the off chance I dared to visit it again, since the web site, which had been neglected for years, unfortunately does not provide any data on whether it was open or not, and lo and behold, after I had paid the price for a ride – which was higher than the price listed in the ticket office list – the ride could start right away.

Sommer- und Winterrodelbahn Wippra • Wiegand Alpine Coaster

After leaving the lift there is a short right-hand bend, whereupon one immediately increases speed in a left-hand bend. This speed is continuously increased on the following straight before it goes into a wide right turn and then over a small gradient. In a small tunnel you change direction and race down the slope for a few meters before you approach the highlight of the course in a wide right turn. With full speed you pass a bigger jump and after another turn you pass two waves. Then you go around a small lake featuring a Nautic Jet from Heege, only to take off a little bit in the sled in another jump. Two turns later you reach the end of the Sommer- und Winterrodelbahn Wippra.
