Inselrodelbahn Bergen (2012)

In the middle of the Baltic Sea island of RĂĽgen, in the village of Bergen, a place whose name was not given without justification (Berg means Mountain, so Bergen is a place full of mountains), you will find the Inselrodelbahn Bergen, Germany’s northernmost summer and winter toboggan run and at the same time the most visited Alpine Coaster ride in Germany. Even on a Sunday with rather modest weather you can spend a few minutes in the queue here.

The ride on the Inselrodelbahn Bergen is quite short, but also quite exciting. Here you will encounter elements you would wish for on longer, but unfortunately monotonous rides, such as the Weserberglandbob. However, even this can only slightly improve the ride.

One should give the operators a very high credit for the display of the speed, since the creative play of this hardly leads to a sneak. Somehow everyone wants to break the speed record and the annoying trimming of the sledges during the descent is omitted.

ScharmĂĽtzelbob (2012)

Close to the town of FĂĽrstenwalde/Spree you will find the ScharmĂĽtzelbob, an Alpine Coaster from Wiegand, well signposted in a wooded area. However, the Lake ScharmĂĽtzel, which gives the coaster its name, is a few kilometres away.

The ride, which was built in 2010, is one of the younger representatives of its kind and features two lifts which are not installed at the beginning and the end of the ride, but which, like many Minetrain roller coasters, initiate two rapid descents. Due to the compact design of the ride another factor of complexity is brought into play, which is simply missing on the very simple track layouts of comparable rides and provides more dynamics and fun.

The ScharmĂĽtzelbob is a pretty good Alpine Coaster, which is mainly due to its route and the quite fast downhill runs after the lifts. Compared to the great rides Hasenhorn Coaster and the Trapper Slider in Fort Fun Abenteuerland in Bestwig, the ride is not as exciting despite its twisted course, but it is much more impressive than most of the other ones of its kind. A ride is therefore highly recommended.

Hasenhorn Coaster (2012)

After a restful night, Jan and I went on the route to Todtnau to take a closer look at the local Alpine Coaster Hasenhorn Coaster. For Jan it was the first visit to the ride without walking up the fairy tale path backwards, for me it was the first visit and so I was very surprised when Jan said that what you see from below is only the last third of the ride.

With the ropeway it went slowly uphill and little by little you could get a view over the track, which looked not only very long but also quite fast from above. Luckily there was not really anything going on at the ride, stupidly there were some foreigners in front of us, who didn’t really understand how to accelerate, despite all the efforts of the responsible personnel. The request of Jan to get an extra distance was happily accepted, but unfortunately it didn’t help that much.

The first part of the track already builds up speed, the following serpentines are fortunately equipped with a good number of bumps and drops, whereby a gradient has a good cross slope. From the middle of the ride I had to brake and it went downhill at a more leisurely pace. In the last third the helices are added before it goes into the brakes.

The Hasenhorn Coaster is pretty damn good, as long as you can race down it halfway unbraked; the great start does its best for it. The used elements on the very long track make the Trapper Slider from Fort Fun Abenteuerland look comparatively old. The Hasenhorn Coaster certainly is one of the best rides of its kind.
