SeaWorld Orlando in Orlando, Florida, has been part of Central Florida’s theme park landscape since 1973. Originally focused on marine life, aquariums and live shows, the park has changed considerably over the decades. Roller coasters and other rides have become an increasingly important part of SeaWorld, adding a new dimension to the experience while the park has retained its focus on marine life.

Mako, Manta, Kraken and Pipeline: The Surf Coaster are now among SeaWorld Orlando’s major attractions and give the park an impressive roller coaster lineup. Animals remain just as much a part of SeaWorld, with sharks, penguins, dolphins, sea lions and many other species found throughout its aquariums and exhibits. Live shows, family attractions and additional rides round out the park’s offerings.

SeaWorld Orlando has evolved considerably over the years, adding major new attractions while staying connected to its original focus on the world’s oceans and marine life. The result is a park that feels quite different from the other major theme parks in Central Florida.

Aquatica Orlando in Orlando, Florida, is the water park of the SeaWorld Orlando Resort and has been welcoming guests since 2008. Designed around a colorful South Pacific theme, the park combines large water slides with wave pools, lazy rivers and extensive areas for families and younger children.

The slide lineup ranges from high-speed attractions such as Ihu’s Breakaway Falls to the multi-directional Reef Plunge and the racing slides of Riptide Race. For something more relaxed, Loggerhead Lane winds its way through the park, while Roa’s Rapids offers a much faster take on the traditional lazy river. Two large wave pools and several children’s areas round out the selection.

With plenty of greenery, sandy beaches and water attractions spread throughout the park, Aquatica offers a welcome change of pace from Orlando’s major theme parks. There is enough here to easily spend a full day, whether that means working through the slide lineup or simply finding a quiet spot by the water.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is a water park built around one of Disney’s more unusual themes: a ski resort in the middle of Florida. According to the park’s story, a freak snowstorm once turned the area into a winter destination, only for the Florida sun to return and transform the melting ski resort into a water park. Since opening in 1995, this playful idea has shaped everything from the snow-covered buildings to the ski lifts and water slides.

At the center of the park stands Mount Gushmore, home to many of Blizzard Beach’s major attractions. Summit Plummet sends riders down one of Disney’s most recognizable body slides, while Teamboat Springs offers a much more family-friendly rafting experience. Toboggan Racers, Runoff Rapids and the Cross Country Creek lazy river add plenty of variety, while younger visitors have their own dedicated play areas.

What makes Blizzard Beach particularly enjoyable is how naturally the water attractions are worked into the ski resort theme. Chairlifts carry visitors up the mountain, slides resemble ski runs and melting snow seems to flow throughout the park. It’s a wonderfully strange concept for Central Florida, but one that works remarkably well.
