Wonderland Amusement Park in Amarillo, Texas, has been entertaining families in the Texas Panhandle since 1951. What started as a small children’s park known as Kiddie Land gradually grew into a traditional amusement park with roller coasters, thrill rides and attractions for all ages.

Today, Wonderland offers a surprisingly broad collection of rides for a park of its size. The Texas Tornado is its most recognizable roller coaster, joined by the classic Cyclone and a variety of thrill rides, water rides and family attractions. Many of the rides are packed closely together, giving the park the lively atmosphere of a classic American amusement park.

More than seven decades after opening, Wonderland remains closely tied to Amarillo and the surrounding region. Its mix of older rides, newer additions and straightforward amusement park fun has made it a summer tradition for generations of families in the Texas Panhandle.

Fun Fact #1: The park features many prototypes by O.D. Hopkins, which later became one of the most important water rides manufacturers.

Fun Fact #2: The Texas Tornado is the only looping coaster, where both of the loops had to be changed in order to get the train around the track. This lead to the iconic appearance of this roller coaster.

Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas, is a waterfront entertainment district located along Galveston Bay, about 30 miles southeast of downtown Houston. Opened in 1997, the Boardwalk combines amusement rides with restaurants, shops and entertainment, all centered around its location directly on the water.

The amusement park section is relatively compact but offers a surprisingly varied selection of rides. Its most recognizable attraction is the Boardwalk Bullet, a tightly packed wooden roller coaster that dominates the skyline of the property. Other attractions include the Boardwalk Tower, Drop Zone, a Ferris wheel and several classic family rides, many of them offering views across the bay.

More than the individual rides, it is the waterfront setting that defines a visit to Kemah Boardwalk. Walking along the boardwalk, watching the boats on Galveston Bay and enjoying a few rides along the way makes for a relaxed amusement park experience with a distinctly coastal atmosphere.

Fun Fact: The roller coaster Boardwalk Bullet offers a very compact layout on an area of only 1acre, it is currently the highest wooden roller coaster in Texas.

SeaWorld San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, has been welcoming guests since 1988 and combines marine-life exhibits with a growing selection of rides and roller coasters. While animals and shows remain an important part of the park, thrill rides have become increasingly prominent over the years.

The coaster lineup includes Texas Stingray, Steel Eel, Great White and Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster, alongside newer additions such as Barracuda Strike. Beyond the rides, visitors can see dolphins, sea lions, penguins, sharks and other marine animals throughout the park, while live presentations and family attractions remain part of the experience.

SeaWorld San Antonio has developed into a park that balances its marine-life roots with a much broader attraction lineup. The result is a destination that feels distinctly different from a traditional zoo or a conventional amusement park.
