A longer stopover at the Freizeitpark Lochmühle

Preface

The previous day was not particularly successful, with an 850 km drive from Vienna, via Munich to a job interview at a company that had not contacted me again despite an agreement, and a visit to the Auto- und Technikmuseum in Sinsheim, whose Heege product range was already shut down 15 minutes before closing time, going to Weiterstadt. To make the 500 km distance back to Hamburg a little more interesting, a visit to Hesse’s most famous amusement park, the Freizeitpark Lochmühle, was planned.

Freizeitpark Lochmühle

The Ponyhof, which emerged in the 1970s from an agricultural business with a grain mill, has developed over time as well as the constantly growing number of playground equipment into a more than well-known amusement park in the Frankfurt area. The main target group of the park are without question families with smaller children, but also barbecue-loving adults are served accordingly by the large number of barbecue huts.

In addition to numerous play facilities for children or their adult counterparts, there are also some rides to try out. Directly at the entrance, behind a small replica of the Altweibermühle (old women’s mill) of the Erlebnispark Tripsdrill near Heilbronn, you will find two Heege Butterfly pendulum rides, from which you have a good view of the valley. Also on this level is the entrance to the generously designed monorail Helikopterbahn and the three Sky-Dive rides that lead across the lake.

Eichhörnchenbahn

Past a tractor ride and numerous animal enclosures, the path leads slowly down to the valley, where the Eichhörnchenbahn (squirrel coaster) – the park’s big roller coaster – is located. The ride, built in 1992, is a somewhat older example of a Force One from Zierer, which is characterized by a common bar, which is a positive feature compared to newer examples, especially regarding the ride comfort.

In addition to the beautifully designed Robinson Wellenfahrt flat ride from the same company, there are also two Luna Loops on this level in addition to a mat slide, the Entenkarussell and the Blütenwirbel from Metallbau Emmeln, as well as the two comet swings Schinderhannesschaukel in stagecoach design, which deliver immensely pronounced airtime.

Through an underpass below the access road you will reach an area with several trampolines, a larger café and a larger electric mule track Eselreitbahn. Those who prefer to ride real animals can do a circuit on one of the park’s ponies for a small fee. The exit of the park is also from this path.

Conclusion Freizeitpark Lochmühle

The Freizeitpark Lochmühle is a nice little amusement park, which is characterised by its numerous play and barbecue facilities, similar to the Erlebnispark Steinau close to Steinau an der Straße. However, due to the smaller number of play activities and the strange layout of the park, the amusement park does not seem quite as charming.

A visit to Germany’s most remote park

Rügen Park

Miniature Village and Heege Rides

At the edge of the village of Gingst on the island of Rügen is the Rügen Park, a miniature park of decent size, which has grown into a small leisure park through its expansion. Typical for a small park in Germany you can find half of the Heege product range here, which is not bad for classics like the Butterfly, Luna Loop or the Nautic Jets.

The showpiece area and at the same time the root of the park offers miniatures from all over the world, but also regional buildings in small format. The level of detail is quite high, but the small gimmicks on the edge are missing, which is for example the Miniatur Wunderland in the Hamburg Speicherstadt.

The park railway and Familienachterbahn

The main attraction of the park is the Chance Park Railway, with the classic C.P. Huntington train. But there is also a second train in this park. This one has a funny grimace and belongs to the Zamperla children’s roller coaster, which luckily doesn’t try to kill you right away, like the Vagones Locos from the Parque de Atracciones de Madrid do. The ride with wide open safety bars was quite adventurous, but for the children, where the safety bars were mostly closed, the ride was a lot of fun.

Conclusion Rügen Park

The Rügen Park is, if you are ever on Rügen, worth a visit. It is best to visit this park in the high season of the island, because then you can be sure to do everything without annoying conversations. Both the park railway and the roller coaster don’t really run very often, so it is advisable to wait a few minutes in front of the ride rather than postpone your visit to the back of the park and thus not enjoy the ride.

One hour in the funny world

The probably most Mexican of all German family parks, the Funny-World, can be visited very close to Europa-Park. The park advertises with the award of the Freizeitpark Tester Team e.V. as “especially recommendable for children”, a rather ridiculous strategy, but there must be people who pay attention to this association.

The Heege Rides

The park itself is rather expensive for a small park like this one, especially as adults pay more than children. Beside two butterflies, sky dives and nautic jets from Heege you will find a jungle loop (which was unfortunately broken at the time of your visit), a luna loop and a comet swing.

Where both Butterflys rode quite well and thus followed their destiny in a relatively normal way, something unexpected happened in the comet swing Mexican Post. Not only that this ride had more airtime than the whole theme park in Rust, it just did not want to stop where other comet swings normally stop. The swing was fabulously high and the forces that were generated were simply unbelievable, also the ride time was accordingly above average, which in combination with the forces led to various laughing cramps.
