Some hours in the Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark

Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark

Since most other amusement parks in the surrounding area had a day of rest on the program, today I went to the Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark in Stukenbrock. Since one could only read very little about this amusement park in the various forums, I was all the more excited to visit the second largest safari park in Germany.

Arrived at the park, I was very positively surprised by the reduced entrance fee on this rather quiet day. As one of the first guests I went on safari. In contrast to the Serengeti-Park in Hodenhagen, the route is much smaller, but you could observe many animals and was undisturbed by the clear view in the morning. The highlights of the tour are certainly the lions and tigers.

Flying Tiger

After the safari follows first of all an excursion through the park to get to the parking lot. The parking place catches one’s eye negatively due to the high concrete walls, but this hardly reduces the overall picture of the park. After a short exploration walk I went to the Super Tornado, alias Flying Tiger. The good condition of the somersault roller coaster with its classic Arrow-HUSS coaster trains catches the eye in a very positive way – the ride itself was ok, but there was some weight missing in the train (after all, the ride was started just for me), so compared to the sister ride Speed Snake at Fort Fun Abenteuerland, the ride was a bit too slow.

Flying Oil Pump

Like many other attractions, the second roller coaster of the Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark was not supposed to open until later. That’s why I was next drawn to the Flying Oil Pump, a Fabbri Cataclysm. The looping carousel with the imaginative name was my highlight in the park. The ride is exciting, fast and fun. Although you are secured with shoulder restraints during the ride, the big game makes for a very pleasant and extremely exciting ride. The many rollovers and the interaction with the second gondola make the ride to something very special and should be tried by each visitor of the park.

Giraffe Tower and Black Fly

The other Fabbri offer of the Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark is somewhat more borderline. At the Giraffe Tower freefall tower, for example, you hang at the top for just under a minute and the Frisbee Black Fly unfortunately hardly swings out at all. Nevertheless Fabbri could convince me of the ride comfort of her rides. Besides Zamperla the second Italian manufacturer who could score points with me.

Teetassen-Karussell

Speaking of Zamperla, there are also some rides from this manufacturer in the Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark. They are a lot more family-friendly, but this should not be missing in such a park. Thereby, the tea cup carousel Teetassen-Karussell is specially worth mentioning with its extremely smooth-running gondolas that can quickly give you a real turning worm.

Kongo River

Also worth a special mention is the log flume Kongo River by the Dutch manufacturer Van Edgom. The Kongo River is not convincing because of its extremely slow lift speed, but it can certainly knock the socks off any passenger because of its descents, the rapids and the enormous airtime in the double drop. A big praise is due to the personnel at the ride, who did not feel too bad to rescue my cap that flew off during the double drop.

Affenzug

Behind the water ride there is a place with some enclosures. Beside a large enclosure with mostly lazy white lions, one could observe extremely active white tigers during my visit. The station of the Affenzug with which one drives over the monkey island is also located here. During the trip, the monkeys climb around the train and can come very close to the visitor – if it were not for the grids on the train. You can also find the frisbee and a water roundabout.

Marienkäferbahn

Close to the Flying Oil Pump there are several Heege motor swings, which have a nice portion of airtime, as well as a water playground, several children’s attractions and hardly slippery slides by Metalbau Emmeln. The park’s second roller coaster, the so-called Marienkäferbahn, is also located here. In a small wooded area, the big Tivoli Coaster by the manufacturer Zierer takes you through the ground level curves of this classic family roller coaster.

Closing Words

The Zoo Safari- und Hollywoodpark has a great price/performance ratio. 24€ is quite affordable for what is offered and if you go on a day without shows, like I did, you only have to pay a reduced price (17€50). The rides are (almost) all in a good and well-kept condition and can convince. The park is definitely worth a visit.

A round tour through the Harburg Mountains

Wildpark Schwarze Berge

Although the northern part of Germany can generally be described as very flat there are also mountains including some very steep ones. The Harburg Mountains just south of Hamburg just fall into this category. In fact, until some years ago you could find a ski slope with a functional lift for the enthusiastic Hanseatic people, who love to go skiing in their February school holidays. Also, if some mountain shots were required for the TV show Die Rettungsflieger, they were filmed here. Much better known among the Hamburg citizens and the inhabitants of the Lower Saxony district of Harburg however, is the wildlife park Wildpark Schwarze Berge which has been entertained the masses with its free-running pot-bellied pigs since its founding in 1969.

Most of the enclosures understandably include domestic deer species, but there are also a large number of domestic cat and otter species in the wildlife park. In addition to other four-legged and invertebrate animals, some birds of prey are represented. These have their own show in the Wildpark Schwarze Berge, which is very worth seeing, funny and informative at the same time.

In addition to a generously sized petting enclosure with all sorts of goats – which have traumatised and thrilled generations of children – the playground to the right of the park’s entrance area is the main attraction of all younger visitors. In addition to classic play equipment you will find many products of the company Heege, such as a Nautic Jet, a Luna Loop, a Sky Diver, and a Butterfly, which can serve as the first roller coaster for the little ones.

A rainy day at Skyline Park

Skyline Park

With Bernd, his mother and his cousin we went to Skyline Park in Bad Worishöfen. This park is owned by the Löwenthal family of showmen, so it comes as no surprise that there are some former fairground rides in the park.

Achterbahn

One of the cars is parked over the park’s entrance, while the others are still making their rounds on the Schwarzkopf roller coaster. As usual with the large Wildcat coasters, the ride is a lot of fun. Even more so when you ride it in the pouring rain. Unfortunately, we left the park a bit too early, otherwise we would have probably experienced a rollback and got stuck.

Formel 1

Right at the entrance to the park is a rather strange attraction. SBF Visa’s Formula 1 is basically a kart track with bumper cars. However, they are quite difficult to control, so the races are not that easy. In addition, you can drive in the typical bumper car manner and play with unfair means. Great fun for all the family!

Skyline Express

In addition to some rides from the park’s earlier history, such as some rides from the Heege catalogue, there is also a double Bavarian curve from BHS in this area, which can also be found at Hansa Park as the El Paso Express. Strangely enough, the lifting mechanism on the cars in the Skyline Express doesn’t work that well, so half of the train stays open, making for a very interesting ride.

Cinematrix 4D

Following Bernd, we entered a strange mine with various obstacles, which ended in a room with two rather strange looking devices. This simulator was showing a space film, which was played twice thanks to an emergency stop. Unfortunately, this emergency stop was almost before the end of the film and after the second time, not only Bernd felt sick. Unfortunately, the film did not fit in at all with the mine design of the waiting area in front of the simulator.

Swimming Pool

To take some of the strain off the body, the Wave Swinger was tested next to the park’s outdoor pool. It’s a good idea, but it wouldn’t hurt to expand it a bit and create the first German Summerland with a fully grown outdoor pool.

Bob Racing andSky Fall

The park has a very nice and original corner with an amazingly long, fast and well-designed bobkart track called Bob Racing. The Fabbri Jungle Jack Sky Fall, which is a bit off the beaten track, also benefits from this. This machine rides so crazy that it is bloody good. An orgy of airtime is guaranteed, as well as a fresh smile on your face.

Sky Rider

Nearby is a truly unique roller coaster, Sky Rider. The ride features rotating, swinging gondolas and a vertical lift, as well as no friction wheels inside the station. As a result, the ride is quite ingenious, and the swinging at the end of the ride is not to be underestimated.

Pirateninsel and Sky Twister

The Sky Wheel attracts visitors from far and wide, but to get to the coaster you have to cross a special feature: a field surrounded by an amusement park. Here, in the second part of the park, you can also find a bumper car made up of two different bumper cars, the Sky Circle, which is built at a different location every year, the Pirateninsel log flume, which can also be ridden backwards, and the former Heide-Park Condor, called Sky Twister.

Sky Wheel

The Sky Wheel itself is a rollercoaster experience that is difficult to describe. The moment before you are released from the upside down lift, gives you a strange feeling in your stomach, which returns to normal with the first roll. This is followed by a descent with wonderfully high centrifugal forces in the valley, before you fly backwards through the valley again. This is followed by a vertical brake before you either return to the station or get back up again. Compared to the longer version in Madrid, the ride is better just because of the backwards part.

Closing Words

Another special feature of Skyline Park is the many pirate-themed lakes. This is especially true of the Alte Liebe swing ride and many of the other attractions, but the park itself is somewhere between a very well themed amusement park and a classic funfair. Skyline Park is definitely worth a visit.
