On the afternoon of my second day, I took Chicago’s Blue Line back to the park-and-ride lot in Cumberland. From there, I headed east toward Sandusky, Ohio, where I planned to spend the next two days at Cedar Point.
Once I left the Chicago metro area behind, traffic became noticeably lighter. I really enjoyed the evening drive through Ohio, passing fields, small towns, and wide-open stretches of countryside along the way.
At one point, I had to stop at a railroad crossing while a freight train rushed past. And it just kept going. I had never seen a freight train that long before.
Ohio also felt somewhat familiar to me. Five years earlier, I had spent a little over a month in the state, although that visit had been in April and therefore outside Cedar Point’s operating season. It was nice to be back — this time at the right time of year.
For the night, I stayed at the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Sandusky near Cedar Point. It was a nice little motel with a fire pit outside, which made for a relaxing end to the day.
