Some hours in Potts Park Minden

Potts Park

A park which I wanted to pay a visit for some time was Potts Park in Minden. After all the park lures with a prototype and a beautifully designed park landscape. The park can give this impression, at least if you look at the front part of the park, which comes in the charming industrial look of the last century. Here you can find, besides the unfortunately halfway broken and much too small velodrome, some rides from the house of Heege, which were very nicely designed.

Potzi-Mobile

Other rides from the same company have unfortunately been a little worse off, because the beautiful and really intense airtime machines Potzi-Mobile are located in the middle of a small go-kart track and on the other side there is an ugly water roundel.

Turbo-Drachen

Right next to it you will find the highlight par excellence in the park, the abc rides prototype Turbo-Drachen, which was built two years ago. The ride in this self steerable kite is very smooth and the cars swing out well to the side. However, the capacity is not the best, which is absolutely sufficient for a park of this size; so you are only a few minutes away from the check-in before the flying adventure can begin. For Potts Park at least, the Turbo-Drachen was a very worthwhile and also praiseworthy investment, because after all, they put a prototype in the park. From the actual ride you can compare it to a Bobkartbahn, even though the rides built by Wiegand are usually a bit faster.

Potts Blitz

The second roller coaster of the park is a Zierer Force Two, one of the bigger rides of the manufacturer and has been equipped with an unusual train and unique name. Luckily, the Potts Blitz is a bit older and can therefore score with more comfort than the new rides of the South German roller coaster manufacturer.

Pedal Track and the Slide Paradise

A few meters further on, there is a pedal track hanging under the rail, which unfortunately is only a simple oval, but offers a very interesting ride. In the middle of the ride there is the park’s aging slide paradise that offers some interesting slides but is simply not very nice to look at.

Faule Sau and Swins Gallop

If one continues to follow the path, one comes to some piggishness. The dark ride Faule Sau is a nicely designed, but unfortunately in some places very bald theme ride and in the Swins Gallop you could certainly have some races against each other, if the children and their parents would understand and use the ride system.

Giant Apartment and Science Centre

Potts Park also provides for education, because here you can see a giant apartment next to a badly lit and rather boring looking science centre. Where the science center is very far away from the Phaeno in Wolfsburg or the Universum in Bremen, the apartment is quite interestingly staged and can promote understanding between parents and child.

Pottwal

By the way, the park has also thought of the water enthusiasts in us and so, besides the inflatable boat slide, which is obligatory for small and medium sized parks, you can also try the log flume Pottwal from Bear Rides, which alone can convince with its beautiful and very originally designed boats.

Conclusion Potts Park

Unfortunately, I was probably a little too much blinded by the pictures of previous reports, so that I unfortunately left the park faster than planned. For a family from the region Potts Park is very worthwhile thanks to the cheap family annual ticket and also for the bidding the entrance fee is justified. The staff was mostly very friendly and also the park guests mostly knew how to behave – so it was a very pleasant visit that one could gladly repeat.

A stopover in the northernmost park in Germany

Tolk-Schau

Arrived in Tolk, where the Tolk-Schau amusement park is located, I immediately started looking for the Heege Butterfly roller coasters, where I found at least the first one after a relatively short time. This Butterfly, the closest to the park entrance, had an unexpectedly rough ride so that I only had one ride. Luckily there is a second Butterfly in the park, which rode quite calmly, but line cutting was the order of the day.

Familienachterbahn

The family roller coaster Familienachterbahn turned out to be my hundredth roller coaster in Germany – a Zierer Force One, which fortunately has been around for some years now and is therefore blessed with the better train. Besides a Zierer Kontiki and a Zierer Dragon ride, the amusement park part of the park also features half of Heege’s product range, an dinghy slide, a weird canal ride and an electronic horse-drawn ride.

Sommerrodelbahn

Another highlight of Tolk-Schau is a summer toboggan run, for which you first have to march to the other side of the park. Past very good looking barbecue huts, dinosaurs and other exhibits, a mini city and some animal enclosures. This is also the biggest weakness of the park, as it tries to cover all kinds of stuff that other parks have already covered much better and more qualitative.

For the luge you had to climb up the mountain to take a seat in the sledge. The track was not very fast or equipped with fast elements, nevertheless there were some people who didn’t want to release the brake and just crept along the track. Such people should not be allowed to ride on such rides.

Closing Words

After about 1.5 hours I left the park, in which I could have easily invested another hour. The park itself is well developed, especially in the infrastructure, which is rather rare for such a park.

Rides and animals in Thüle

Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle

The zoo, which has existed since 1954, has managed to create a very well-functioning amusement park section through the additions of the last 20 years, which unfortunately robs the zoo of its visitors. While the amusement park part of the Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle was very well received, I could hardly spot any other visitor on my tour through the zoo part. This is more than just a pity, because this area was probably subject to some extensive renovation works in the last years.

The Heege Rides

The amusement park part of the park has its origin with the many small rides made by the manufacturer Heege, which is why you can find the classics Luna Loop and Sky Diver among others. But also a very rare Heege ride pleases every roller coaster fan with good taste, because here you can’t ride a normal Butterfly, but the large version instead. This one is not only longer, higher and faster but also more powerful. A special feature of this ride is that you can ride it with open bars. But there are also new types of rides in the park.

Drachen-Achterbahn

For the Zierer friends among us you can ride the Kontiki Swing Boat as well as a Force Two roller coaster model. I never saw this layout before, so I was really looking forward to the ride on the Drachen-Achterbahn, which had a decent track length for a children’s roller coaster and some speed.

Bobkartbahn and Storchenturm

I did not test the Wiegand Bobkartbahn in the Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle despite the appealing layout, because neither the queue nor the bobkarts moved significantly, even crept. Especially worth mentioning is the nearby Twist & Turn Storchenturm of the manufacturer Metallbau Emmeln, which offered a very good ride. Also the design of the ride catches the eye in a very positive way.

Spring Ride Tower

The Moser Tower Spring Ride Tower is similarly positive, but from the ride’s point of view it offers the worst possible ride for its passengers. Here, the kids stormed in without end, I myself left it at only one ride, as the tower braked rather unpleasantly, also the ride program was rather bad as mentioned above.

The water rides of Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle

For the soakers among us there is unfortunately not much to see except a Nautic Jet and an dinghy slide, so that one could only advise the park to order a log flume, or at least another tube, this time however with a curve, for their dinghy slide. The family audience of the park would certainly appreciate it, especially with the temperatures last Sunday.

Eiertanz and Airboat

Beside the funny Technical Park Apollo 2000 Eiertanz, which in my opinion could have swung out even higher, you could also board a HUSS Airboat. This ride was not as bumpy as the ride from the Danish BonBon-Land, but it was still appropriate for the audience.

Conclusion Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle

All in all, the Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle offers something for the whole family. The rides are already fun to a certain extent and even the roller coaster fan is well served here, which is also due to the large shuttle coaster. The entrance fee is very fair and also includes the quite big zoo, which one should not miss.
