Kärnapulten and Der kleine Zar

Der kleine Zar

Actually, one should only be able to tell very little about the history of a newly built roller coaster. With the roller coaster Der kleine Zar it’s different, because apart from the background story assigned to it, there was a background story of its own regarding the production, so the ride could only be built this year and not as planned last year. The standard model of the Italian manufacturer Preston & Barbieri, which already makes its rounds in the Swedish amusement park Liseberg, did not meet the latest standards and could therefore not be approved in Germany. Corresponding adjustments to the small roller coaster took a little longer than expected, so that the construction site, which had already been prepared, was temporarily filled with two children’s rides. At the beginning of the season the ride opened without further problems.

The ride on the Der kleine Zar begins with the exit from the curved station into the lift hill of the ride. Arrived at the top, a little dip follows, whereupon the fast downward helix joins. In the valley, the youngsters then experience wonderfully pronounced forces before a small hill follows. After that the station is reached immediately and three more laps follow.

Der kleine Zar is an utterly nice roller coaster for the youngest guests of Hansa Park and/or for the park guests for whom the other roller coasters are still too scary. The ride can definitely be described as fast, as the acceleration is quite pronounced and offers a great alternation.

Kärnapulten

As a second and originally planned novelty for this year, the Gerstlauer Sky Fly ride Kärnapulten opened shortly after the start of the season. The classic among the semi-automatic carousels is also presented in a stylish outfit, but the ride cannot be compared to the other rides of this kind. While there, with a little practice, a high number of rollovers is possible on selected places, here it is a miracle to get a rotation at all; thus, one does not offer the proven ride pleasure for Sky-Fly veterans, for all other passengers it remains the same, of course. The reason for this is the big tower of the roller coaster Kärnan, which has a noticeable influence on the ride dynamics.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach (2016)

Preface

As my cousin is afraid of flights, I took the chance to accompany her to England, where she would spend her holidays in a guest family. I rented a car in Birmingham and instantly regretted to have booked via Europcar and not another car rental service. My friend Daniel came to Birmingham earlier that day and has spent his time at the wonderful Drayton Manor Theme Park. After park closure, I picked him up from the hotel parking lot and together we drove to the seaside resort of Blackpool in Lancashire in order to have a great weekend in the city, as well as a visit to one of my all-time favourite theme parks Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

During my last review, it might not have sound that I enjoyed the park so much, but over time it really grew onto me. It is a very well-aged theme park with lots of effort being put into it to keep it going as best as possible while other parks in the United Kingdom currently take a large step back.

It was my first visit to the park on a busy day during the illuminations. Although there were queues basically everywhere, we never had to wait long. I even could finally get to ride the remaining lane of the Steeplechase roller coaster – it just took three attempts at the park to do so.

Sky Force

I also had a try on the Sky Force ride by Gerstlauer. Although it is one of the newer Sky Fly attractions it certainly offered a ride like on one of the old installations, which resulted in a total of 96 rollovers and I loved it! It was a brilliant start of a wonderful day at the Pleasure Beach.

Ninja training in Legoland

Preface

What do you do if you are a fan of the Sky Fly rides of the manufacturer Gerstlauer and completely disregard the opening hours of the Holiday Park in advance but are already in Darmstadt? Certainly not the way back of 500 km to Hamburg, when you can also have a way back of about 1000 km, but with one or the other ride. Surely you shouldn’t make this decision at 10 o’clock in the morning, so that you don’t reach Legoland Deutschland until the afternoon due to the rather modest condition of the south German motorways. At the entrance to the parking lot we found out that the rides close already one hour before the actual closing time of the park, so we only had about 90 minutes left for the park and Flying Ninjago.

Tempel X-Pedition

In 2013, a good three years after Legoland Billund, the dark ride Tempel X-Pedition opened at Legoland Deutschland, where you can go on an interactive treasure hunt through the Egyptian temple armed with pistols in search of the tomb treasure of the pharaohs. The ride is handsome and original, but a little too short. Although the rides in Billund and Günzburg are the same, the outdoor area here is much more convincing.

Flying Ninjago

In the same year in which the prototype of the Sky Fly rides was presented to the public in Nigloland, France, Flying Ninjago, the second ride of this type, was opened. Since then, the prototype, which was designed after the quite popular in-house animation series Ninjago, has been putting its more or less daring passengers upside down or not, but unfortunately without The Weekend Whip, the title music of the series, as soundtrack. Instead, you accumulate your rollovers under shallow Asian-sounding music, which can be numerous even without much practice. Unfortunately, the ride was operated without the last two rows for most of the time, so that there was some waiting time in the otherwise empty park.

Halloween in Legoland

Interestingly enough, Halloween was already taking place at the time of our visit, which is why the medieval area was significantly redesigned and the Feuerdrache (fire dragon) was therefore shown in a different guise. Nearly all figures were transformed into ghosts with sheets and the soundtracks were deactivated or changed, but this limited the sense of the dark ride before the actual roller coaster part a bit. For the more courageous children there was also a little Maze, which was indeed operated during the week, despite the small crowd.
