The singing birds of Walsrode

Weltvogelpark Walsrode

Located in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath, Weltvogelpark is home to the largest bird park in the world. For many in Lower Saxony and Bremen, the park is well known, after all, it is one of the parks that you should visit or already have visited when living nearby.

Founded in 1962 by a merchant, the park turned into a fast-growing regional attraction in the 1970s. For this reason, it is hardly surprising how much space the park has, but besides its enclosures, it boasts one of the most beautiful garden landscapes in Europe.

The biodiversity ranges from penguins to native animals and exotic birds. The enclosures are each perfectly designed to its housed animal. In addition to two larger free-flight halls, you can visit several animal houses or take a closer look at the numerous aviaries and outdoor enclosures.

The design of the parks ranges from natural enclosures to themed enclosures such as the Uhu Castle, which is ahead of many theme parks. In addition to two major bird shows, the park has plenty of informative animal feeding sessions to watch out for.

A special attraction, which can be found more and more often in various zoos, is the walk-in aviary of the lorikeet. I’ve visited a similar attraction in Chessington – World of Adventures these colorful birds, even if they are quite loud. As in England, the birds here are quite alive and thirsty for the nectar, which can be used to attract them.

Not only the birds are well supplied with food, there are also numerous possibilities open to the visitors. There are two snack bars as well as two service restaurants, each with a large terrace area. In addition, the food here is excellent, although priced in a slightly higher range then usual.

Next to the Weltvogelpark, you can visit a high ropes course. You can also find an information center about the Lüneburg Heath and rent some bicycles if needed.

Parque de Atracciones de Madrid

Theme Park:Parque de Atracciones de Madrid
(since 1969)
Address:Casa de Campo
28011 Madrid
https://www.parquedeatracciones.es
Operated by:Parques Reunidos

Parque de Atracciones de Madrid is one of the most important amusement parks in Europe. Built during the Franco dictature in the 1960s, the park opened its gates in 1969 for the first time. From the start of the project the park was controlled by a society which later became Parques Reunidos, one of the largest operator of seasonal amusement parks.

Despite its significance for the amusement park industry, the park hosts a variety of rides and attractions. Today, the park offers a total of seven roller coasters – most of them are very unique, e.g. the inverted coaster Tornado or the SkyLoop Abismo – and a variety of outstanding flat rides and water rides. It is also home to one of the Nickelodeon Land themed areas.

Fun Fact #1: The park is the historical starting point of the Parques Reunidos group.

Fun Fact #2: The Tornado roller coaster is one of just two Intamin Suspended Looping Coastersr. Both of them share the same name.

Parque Warner Madrid

Theme Park:Parque Warner Madrid (since 2007)
Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid
(2002 - 2006)
Address:M-301
28330 San Martin de la Vega

Operated by:Parques Reunidos

Parque Warner in San Martin de la Vega near Madrid is one of the largest theme parks in the country. Originally opened under the name of Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid, the theme park is a direct offspring of Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia and therefore has a very interesting history. For the Ciudad de Ocio (Amusement City) initially planned by the State of Madrid, the American theme park group Six Flags (until 1998 a Time Warner company) was awarded the contract, whereupon they developed and operated the park.

When Six Flags parted ways with its European theme parks in 2004, Time Warner took over their shares in the theme park. After several years without profit, the construction company Fadesa took over the shares of the state under the condition that in the future Madrid-based Parques Reunidos would manage the park for the next 10 years. Fadesa, however, shortly afterwards went into one of the biggest bankruptcies in Spanish history. Parques Reunidos, in turn, managed to steer the park in the right direction and over time took over 95% of the park’s shares, with the remaining 5% still held by Time Warner.

The park’s attractions are as exciting as its history. San Martin de la Vega is home to some of the best roller coasters in Europe, such as the Giant Inverted Boomerang Stuntfall or the floorless coaster Superman: La Atraccion de Acero. Parque Warner Madrid also offers a wide range of family-friendly rides, breathtaking water rides and shows that are well worth seeing.

Coaster ExpressFun Fact #1: The roller coaster Coaster Express was originally opened as Wild Wild West and had a very large waiting area with some interesting features below the station. A roller coaster car with an ejection seat can still be seen in the station today.

Fun Fact #2: All Looney Tunes figures, which are located in the water park Parque Warner Beach, were once part of the vintage car ride Cine Tour in the studio area of the theme park.
