Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California is the second theme park at the Disneyland Resort and opened in 2001. While neighboring Disneyland celebrates Disney’s classic characters and timeless stories, Disney California Adventure draws inspiration from California itself, along with Pixar and the Marvel Universe. Following a major transformation over the past decade, the park has become an essential part of the Disneyland Resort experience.

Among the park’s biggest highlights are Cars Land and Grizzly Peak. Cars Land faithfully recreates the town of Radiator Springs from the Pixar films, while Grizzly Peak captures the atmosphere of a national park with towering pine trees, waterfalls and its iconic mountain backdrop. Other major attractions include Radiator Springs Racers, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Incredicoaster and a variety of family-friendly dark rides.

Although Disney California Adventure is smaller than neighboring Disneyland, there’s easily enough to keep visitors busy for a full day. Its mix of immersive themed lands, major attractions, live entertainment and seasonal events makes it an experience that perfectly complements a visit to Disneyland.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California, is one of the more unusual parks in the Six Flags family, combining a full amusement park with animal exhibits and presentations. The park traces its roots to 1968 and moved to its current location in Vallejo in 1986. After operating for several years as Marine World Africa USA, the park gradually added more rides and roller coasters before eventually becoming Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2007.

Today, roller coasters are a major part of the park, with Medusa, Joker and Superman Ultimate Flight among its best-known attractions. They are joined by a broad selection of thrill rides and family attractions, while the park’s animal exhibits remain an important part of its identity. Visitors can encounter a variety of marine animals and other species throughout the different areas of the park.

This mix of rides and animals gives Six Flags Discovery Kingdom a character of its own. With its long history as Marine World still visible in parts of the park, it feels quite different from a typical Six Flags amusement park.
