A slightly longer visit at the Otter-Zentrum

Otter-Zentrum

Since the year 1988, the Otter-Zentrum is located on the southern edge of the Lüneburg Heath. The initiator of the centre and founder of the Fischotterschutz eV Claus Reuther was previously involved in the otter research enclosure Oderhaus in the Harz and committed himself to the research of domestic animals, which are less known than most of the African animals.

As a recognised conservation association, the association not only takes care of the existence of the threatened species of the otter, but also tries to give the rivers their natural shape back by buying and leasing river plots. The rivers are then sold with conditions, so that the otter can settle again. Furthermore, research is conducted at the center, but this is an inaccessible area to the visitors.

Around 100,000 visitors come to the park every year. During the 2-3 hour tour you can learn a lot of interesting facts. In addition to countless, mostly quite creative, game and information opportunities on the edge of the trails, the animal care takers answer a lot of your questions (in particular at the times of feeding). In contrast to other zoos this happens with a certain commitment, even if there are only a few people in the park.

In addition to the eponymous otter, there are several other, related or historically related, animals in the Otter-Zentrum. Thus, in addition to badgers, martens, ermines, polecats, and minks, there is the otter dog which basically only exists due to otter hunting being very popular in England a few hundred years ago.

The very natural enclosures are all exceptionally large and have enough retreat for the animals. In addition to elevated grandstands, there are some tunnels from which you can watch the animals from. Particularly noteworthy here is the enclosure of the tree marten, which gives you not only a wonderful view of the action under and in the trees, but also is the only one of its kind in Europe.

Conclusion Otter-Zentrum

The Otter-Zentrum is a kind of special zoo and thus one of the most beautiful destinations in the south of the Lüneburg Heath. During the season there are numerous events and actions around the center. In the warmer months there is also the possibility to discover the neighbouring lake by boat, or to cool down in the forest pool or at the water playground. Also for the physical well-being is taken care of and thus the Otter-Zentrum in Hankensbüttel offers enough possibilities to spend half or even a whole day here with the otters.

Bremer Freimarkt (2011)

As my brother had his flat right next to the fairground in Bremen, it was always a joy of visiting him during the playtime of the Bremer Freimarkt. There is something special about this funfair, as basically everybody of the surrounding cities and villages are coming to Bremen to celebrate together. As the fair starts quite early, you can grab one or two very long rides before the crowd comes in and the lines are getting busy.

Home of the almighty Ramses

Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza

In the middle of the Los Pinares de Venecia, the largest city park of Saragossa, there is a slightly smaller Tivoli since 1974: the Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza. The location itself reminds very much of the Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, the charm itself rather resembles the theme park Tivoli World near Malaga. Besides numerous classic rides, the park has a public swimming pool.

Moncayo

The big roller coaster of the Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza is a little older and is called Moncayo. The ride on the Galaxy, built in 1974 by the manufacturer S.D.C., convinces with its solid descents and its never-ending helices. In addition, it offers the proven ride fun as you can experience it in Germany on the roller coaster Berg & Tal – a great fun for the whole family.

Quetzal, Gran Tikal and Revolution

Directly next to it, the really beautiful and also most visited ride of the park make its rounds. It should be noted that Saltamontes is always the most popular ride in Spain. Quetzal at least is no exception. Together with the Reverchon log flume Gran Tikal, the ride creates a harmonious overall theme, but this is already broken by the Top Spin Revolution next to them.

Ramses

In the immediate vicinity of the three rides is the Ramses duelling shuttle coaster, although during our visit only the front side was in operation and the rear side has been standing still for ages (editor’s note. Meanwhile the back side is in operation, but the front one is not anymore). The ride on the oversized butterfly is rather forceful and takes an eternity until you are back on the road. Splendid! Ramses is a great roller coaster in a great scenery, what more could you want?

Conclusion Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza

The Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza itself has some nice corners to offer, but it does not have the charm of the Tivoli World park on the Costa Dorada, but the price is much lower, because you can get 2 tickets with your entrance ticket or arm yourself with a wristband from the beginning. Due to lack of time and money of two participants we had to count, watch and say goodbye; since not much was going on around noon anyway, this isn’t too shameful. The visit cost us a total of 5 tickets; yet, I do not need another visit here. Even though I would probably enjoy the parks offer very much, especially in the evening hours.
