The new additions of Holiday Park

Dino Splash

In 2020, Holiday Park gave its popular rapid river Donnerfluss a new life. The new dinosaur theme fits the ride perfectly and the figures create a quite immersive environment. You feel like going onto an adventure when queueing for the ride. Unfortunately, the old reference to the mighty Thunder River (the first ever installation of a rapids ride, which was located in the long gone Six Flags Astroworld) is gone and replaced by the generic ride name Dino Splash to be in line with other water attractions at the various Plopsa parks.

Holiday Indoor

Since 2018, Holiday Park is home to a large indoor area of the same size as the Plopsa Indoor theme parks. The area is very well themed and is home to a bunch of rides, play areas, a stage and a restaurant. Its main attractions are a carousel, the flat ride Mias Elfenflug and the roller coaster Tabalugas Achterbahn. The rides are all themed to various TV shows of Studio 100.

Tabalugas Achterbahn

Tabalugas Achterbahn is the newest roller coaster at Holiday Park. The ride is located at the righthand corner of Holiday Indoor. While the station of the ride is well themed, the indoor section features just a bunch of figures of the popular German TV show in a night sky environment. Nevertheless, the ride is a very solid family coaster.

Miscellaneous

Holiday Park’s wonderful water ski show sadly is no more. The area to the back of the park is now closed to make room for a future addition. At the same time, the area around the Lighthouse tower improved a lot. The water play area Super Wings Wasserspielplatz is the newest addition next to the Beach Rescue jet ski ride by Zierer and the cute Fischerboote by Metallbau Emmeln.

A visit to Taunus Wunderland

Taunus Wunderland

Taunus Wunderland in Schlangenbad near Wiesbaden is a medium-sized family amusement park. The park was opened in 1966 by the Maxeiner family as a fairy tale forest and petting zoo. The first attractions moved into the park in 1998, when the showman Otto Barth took over the park.

Quite quickly after the takeover by the Barth family, one of the family’s Wild Mouse roller coasters found its way into the park. In 2001, the construction of the large log flume by Mack Rides followed. Starting in 2016, the small amusement park was restructured into a proper theme park. The themed areas of Opa Alfreds Dinotal, Rosis Zuckerwatteland and Onkel Bernds Bauernhof are all quite successful and have a very different charm than the loosely placed fairground rides before.

Wilde Maus

The main attraction of the Rosis Zuckerwatteland themed area is the Wilde Maus family roller coaster, which towers over all the other attractions due to its hillside location and thus offers a great view of the surroundings. The ride itself is a classic of German funfairs and is thus a guarantee for a good time.

Traubenrutsche

At the rear end of the park is the entrance to the Grape Slide. The log flume from Mack Rides scores with its high shot at the end of the ride. Before that, the boat bobs a few meters through the canal and turns a lap around the lift before it is sounded. Once at the top, two turntables and a very short backward passage in between await the guest. This is followed by the final plunge into the cool water, whereupon the ride comes to an end.

Kuhddel-Muuuhddel

The entrance to the small roller coaster Kuhddel-Muuuhddel is located slightly below the log flume Traubenrutsche. The spinning coaster from SBF Visa turns several laps through the short layout, which can be very entertaining due to the rotation of the gondola, which is very easy to spin depending on the load.

Miscellaneous

Other highlights in the park are the small break dance from SBF Visa, a tube slide and the small free fall tower Knall und Fall by abc rides. Currently, a new themed area is being constructed directly by the entrance, where, among other things, a Mondial Top Scan, a true thrill machine, will move into the park. Likewise, the Galaxie Express from the former Space Center Bremen will finally find a new home in Taunus Wunderland.

Conclusion Taunus Wunderland

The Taunus Wunderland surprised me a little. The themed areas are all really nicely designed and have a pleasant flair. The future expansions of the amusement park already make me want more, so I’ll be happy to stop by.

Festival Toutatis

Toutatis

The launched roller coaster Toutatis in one of the most interesting theme park novelties this year. Located beyond the park’s bobsleigh coaster Trace du Hourra, the Intamin LSM launch coaster is the main attraction of the Festival Toutatis themed area.

The ride begins with a small dip out of the station. We are then launched into a cutback element filled with hangtime. Already in a good mood, we then enter the main launch section via a fast switch track. While experiencing a very nice airtime on our way towards the large top hat, we do not gain enough speed to clear the element. Now going backwards, we then hit the launch section again, which catapults is out of our seat while passing the airtime hill. We then stall on the vertical spike; knowing that the next launch will actually be stronger. With great speed we experience insane airtime on the hill and race towards the top hat, which we clear without any troubles.

Unfortunately, the next drop is hardly trimmed and takes away a bit of the dynamics of the ride. Once back at the ground, we regain the flow and race through a sharp lefthand curve followed by a Zero-G stall before hitting a bunch of airtime hills and turnarounds. A highly inclined righthand curve then guides us next to the top hat, which we pass in a tight lefthand turn directing us into a very fast barrel roll over the queue line. Shortly thereafter a curve and two bunny hops guide us into the final brake run.

Toutatis is without wanting to exaggerate the best roller coaster in France and the best roller coaster, I’ve experienced so far. Although, it could be an overall better ride without the trim on the top hat, the ride itself is a highly dynamic one. The triple launch features one of the most insane airtime hills and the fast-paced section after the top hat is just nuts. Well done, Parc Astérix!
