Oceans of Fun

Water Park:Oceans of Fun (since 1982)
Address:4545 Worlds of Fun Ave
Kansas City, MO 64161

Operated by:Enchanted Parks

Oceans of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri, is the water park located right next to Worlds of Fun. The park opened in 1982 and was one of the largest water parks in the world at the time. Today, admission to Oceans of Fun is included with Worlds of Fun, making it very easy to visit both parks on the same day.

Oceans of Fun offers a good selection of water slides, ranging from older classics to more modern additions. There is also the large Surf City Wave Pool, several family areas and Caribbean Cooler, the park’s lazy river. Especially during the hot Missouri summer, the water park is a great addition to a day at Worlds of Fun.

Oceans of Fun has been around for more than 40 years, and you can certainly tell in some areas. But that is also part of its charm. The mature trees and older attractions give the park a character that many newer water parks simply don’t have, while the surprisingly good selection of slides makes it easy to spend several hours here.

Operated by:Enchanted Parks

Valleyfair! in Shakopee, Minnesota, has been the Twin Cities’ major amusement park since opening in 1976. What started as a regional park along the Minnesota River eventually became an important part of American amusement park history: together with Cedar Point, Valleyfair gave the Cedar Fair company its name and became one of the foundations of the group that would later operate parks across North America.

Roller coasters are at the heart of Valleyfair, with the sprawling hypercoaster Wild Thing and the wooden coaster Renegade among the park’s biggest attractions. The classic High Roller has been part of Valleyfair since opening day, while Corkscrew represents another early chapter in the park’s history. A broad collection of thrill rides and family attractions fills out the lineup, along with the Soak City water park during the summer months.

With plenty of trees and attractions spread across its spacious grounds, Valleyfair has the relaxed feel of a park that has grown steadily over the decades. It remains a popular summer destination in Minnesota and an easy place to spend a full day between roller coasters, classic rides and the water park.

Worlds of Fun

Theme Park:Worlds of Fun (since 1973)
Address:4545 Worlds of Fun Ave
Kansas City, MO 64161

Operated by:Enchanted Parks

Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri, opened in 1973 with a theme inspired by Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days. The park was divided into different areas representing regions from around the globe, an idea that can still be seen in much of its layout today. Over the decades, Worlds of Fun has grown considerably while remaining one of the major amusement parks in the Midwest.

Roller coasters are a big part of the park, led by the wooden coaster Prowler and the sprawling hypercoaster Mamba. Patriot adds an inverted coaster to the lineup, while Zambezi Zinger brings a modern twist to the name of one of Worlds of Fun’s most fondly remembered original coasters. Beyond the thrill rides, the park offers plenty of family attractions and is joined by the Oceans of Fun water park.

With its spacious grounds, mature trees and rides spread across the different themed areas, Worlds of Fun is an enjoyable park to explore beyond the major coasters. More than 50 years after opening, traces of its original around-the-world concept can still be found throughout the park.
