The water park for the daredevil

Caneva Aquapark

Caneva Aquapark located right next to the brilliant movie-based theme park Movieland Park, is the water park of the CanevaWorld Resort – a family destination at the southern shore of Lake Garda. The water park is famous for its daredevil and one-of-a-kind water slides.

TriSplash and Super Splash

Located right next to the entrance are the TriSplash and Super Splash water slides. While on the TriSplash slide you slide down a group of three bodyslides that race down a gentle slope with lots of tight bends, on the Super Splash you slide headfirst down a steep slope on a mat and then jump a few meters through the air on a ski jump. Therefore, Super Splash is a great way to start your visit to this insane water park.

Water Jump

Passing the windy lagoon water play area, we make our way to another famous slide: the Water Jump. The slide starts as a classic bodyslide, which soon releases you onto a ski jump feature, which you may or may not slide down rather elegantly. It’s a very fun slide and worth the wait.

Volcan Kamika

When you enter the queue for Volcan Kamika, it’s not very clear what the slide actually is, before you reach the top. The slide down the volcan is a very classic kamikaze style slide with a nice dip before you take the finale chute, leading to a very nice airtime on your way down.  

Black Hole 2 and Mini Black

Black Hole 2 and Mini Black are the two Black Hole style slides in the park. While Mini Black are two short bodyslides aimed for younger park guests, Black Hole 2 are tube slides featuring of a series of turns, jumps and different light effects on your way down.

Typhoon

Typhoon is the name of the classic family racing slide located at the back of the park. After the initial steep drop, you hurtle down a series of waves where you can barely control your position as you compete against your friends and family members. Seriously speaking, this style of water slides are always great fun.

Miss Betty and Crazy River

The Zamperla Rockin’ Tug Miss Betty is the only dry ride within the park. The gentle swinging boat sits brilliantly on top of a cliff, giving it a very eye pleasing experience. Right next to it you can find the entrance to the Crazy River. This slide consists of a series of chutes and small pools and is arguably the park’s most popular slide if judged by the rather long waiting time.

Frozen Bob

The Frozen Bob conglomerate of water slides feature three racing mat slides, at which end you are stopped on a half-pipe element and four regular mat slides featuring a bunch of fast turns. Unfortunately, during my visit, the three-lane mat racer was closed and the other slides all had a rather long queue.

Stukas Boom

Throning on top of the water park, and interestingly over the Diabolik Invertigo roller coaster of the theme park next door, is Stukas Boom. This kamikaze-style slide is one of the earliest examples of a door trap water slide and therefore quite a challenge to take. The drop is insane and gives you a very good view onto the surroundings while going down a height of 32 meters.

Twin Peaks

The highlight of Caneva Aquapark is the Twin Peaks water slide. Here you go down a very steep chute gaining a lot of velocity to may or may not be able to take the large hill directly in front of you. Here, you either crawl over the crest or you fly over it (and out of the two-seater tubes). This slide is the definition of insanity and the main reason to come back to this beautiful water park.

Conclusion Caneva Aquapark

Caneva Aquapark is one of the best water parks, I’ve visited so far. Everything is well themed throughout the park and the water slides range from good to absolutely brilliant. Together with a visit to the neighbouring theme park, you will have a splendid and overall quite adventurous day at Lake Garda.

Aquatica Orlando

Reef Plunge

Right at the entrance to the water park is the entrance to the first highlight: Reef Plunge. This classic bodyslide offers a fairly long slide over numerous bends and several smaller jumps and towards the end offers a ride through a larger water basin in a transparent tube. Here you have a few seconds to watch the Commerson’s dolphins, leopard sharks, sardines and other cold-water fish above and beside you before you reach the exit of the slide. Thanks to this feature, Reef Plunge is a unique experience and should definitely be tried once, provided the slide is open.

Loggerhead Lane and Tassie’s Twister

The Lazy River Loggerhead Lane serves as a cozy entry point for the double funnel slide Tassie’s Twister. After drifting for a few minutes, you can make your way up to the entrance. After a quick start, you then do a few laps in the funnel before leaving it comfortably through the outlet and being led back into the lazy river.

Riptide Race

Riptide Race was still the newest water slide in the park when I visited. The double racing slide offers several sections along its course where you can meet your competitors in the other lane. Despite its numerous jumps, the slide is a little too gentle, at least for a single person.

Walhalla Wave and Ray Rush

At the time of my visit, the Ray Rush slide was under construction. I would have loved to go for a ride on the Family Blaster ride built by Whitewater with the large Manta element, but I would have just as loved to go down the Valhalla Wave slide. Both slides promise to be a lot of fun, which is why I would love to return at some point.

Walkabout Waters and Taumata Racer

After this small disappointment, we now make our way through the Walkabout Waters play structure, where we refresh ourselves a little with the water from the huge overturning bucket, towards the Taumata Racer mat slide. This eight-lane slide not only has an incredibly high capacity, but also encourages you to race against your family or friends. The Taumata Racer is by no means a classic mat slide, because before it goes into the big shoot ride, you first pick up a lot of speed in a high-pressure helix. Wonderful!

Roa’s Rapids, Big Surf Shores and Cutback Cove

Aquatica Orlando is home to the pretty fast and really exciting Lazy River Roa’s Rapids. For a large part of the course, you can simply let yourself be carried along by the current without paying too much attention, and in between there are the absolutely brilliant rapid sections. It’s great fun. The nearby wave pools Big Surf Shores and Cutback Cove are perfect for letting yourself drift a little on the waves after a round or two in Roa’s Rapids.

Ihu’s Breakaway Falls

The four turbo slides of the Ihu’s Breakaway Falls tower are located directly next to the two wave pools Big Surf Shores and Cutback Cove. While the blue, green and orange tubes have a trapdoor start, the purple tube offers a classic entry followed by a very steep gradient before it turns into a curve-dominated slide, just like the other tubes. As always with very high waterslides, the tension increases with every meter of height. Here at Aquatica Orlando, it is even forbidden to wear swimming trunks that are too tight, as you would probably be going too fast. At some point, you reach the top and are spoiled for choice between the four lanes.

While the two of the three trapdoor start lanes immediately turn left and, after a short bend to the right, offer a longer straight section with the third in the group following the same course in the other direction, the purple slide gets off to an incredibly fast start with a fairly high drop. This is followed by a powerful downward helix, which leads into another high drop for the finale. Meanwhile, the three other lanes also set off on their final spurt and elegantly lead you into the exit after another high-pressure left or right turn.

All four lanes of Ihu’s Breakaway Falls are really good slides, with the purple lane definitely being the wildest of the four. Those who like turbo slides will get their money’s worth here, because Orlando’s highest water slide is really not for hot showers and/or water park newbies and is therefore a real test of courage!

Kare Kare Curl

Let’s now move on to the last huge standalone slide in the park and my personal highlight: Kare Kare Curl. As I was traveling alone and a group of three happened to need another person to slide with them, I was able to take a seat in one of the four-person boats in no time at all. After a short slide at a lofty height, there is a tight helix before the big drop into the Tornado Wave begins. In this wave, you speed up rapidly before drifting sideways and hurtling downwards. After two quick swings along the slide wall, you are slowly slowed down before plunging into a tunnel and being guided leisurely to the end of the slide.

Kare Kare Curl is an absolutely magnificent slide, which for me also serves as a symbol for Aquatica Orlando.

Whanau Way und Omaka Rocka

Nearby is the ascent to the fast tube slides Whanau Way and Omaka Rocka. While the former scores points with its rapid double drop finale after a winding start, Omaka Rocka impresses with its wild pendulum passages in the small funnels on the way down.

Just like back then in San Antonio, I was once again quite happy to have bought the ticket for the water park. The visit to Aquatica Orlando was my highlight of the day and one of the best water parks I’ve visited so far. Despite the many closed slides, I liked the park even better than its sister park in San Antonio. There are a lot of really good water slides here and the design of the park is also extremely sublime, which is why I can highly recommend a visit. With a visit to the main park next door, you really have a lot to experience here.

Aqualandia (2020)

Preface

I have been on vacation on the Spanish Costa Blanca for ages. I spent many vacations in my childhood in Torrevieja, after all my family had a small vacation apartment there. Almost always we drove 2400km down there by car and of course our car didn’t have air conditioning. These were exciting road trips including Uriah Heep and CCR, which became quite lively in the Pyrenees. Thereupon we had two weeks of vacation before the game repeated itself. It was a great time, but I didn’t visit many parks during my childhood spent in Spain.

Meanwhile I usually spend my vacations somewhere else. My family has exchanged the vacation apartment in Torrevieja for a nice house near Dénia and I have only been there once for Christmas. Actually I had planned to spend my vacations in Canada this year, but then came Corona. I hadn’t booked anything yet – it was supposed to be a road trip anyway. The stock markets collapsed and all countries were closed down temporarily. After a few months of lock-down some states opened their doors again and just in time for the summer vacations we were able to travel comfortably in Europe. Spontaneously, I joined my father, who, following the old tradition, drove to Spain by car with a colleague – only that I first flew to Madrid and later on I would join them by train.

So the vacation was spontaneous and the cost was quite human. Thanks to the vacation house we stayed mostly among ourselves. Moreover, we did not have to worry about Covid-19; because the Spanish is exemplary in this respect: everywhere, people wear masks and keep their distance from each other. Beaches are empty, cities are deserted and even the amusement and water parks are moderately visited at most. An unparalleled disaster, which even led the Mundomar-Aqualandia Group to decide not to open its Terra Mítica theme park in the first place.

However, Mundomar and the neighboring Aqualandia started into the season.

Aqualandia

Just like the Parque Warner theme park, the Aqualandia water park followed a strict hygiene concept. To be honest, I do not know to what extent it makes sense to disinfect swimming tires, which are in constant contact with chlorine anyway. It is also strange to disinfect your hands before each slide under observation of the staff, when the stuff is already washed down completely a few seconds later anyway. Well, at least here in the waterpark your hands don’t necessarily dry out – so it doesn’t bother me that much.

Since the water park was hardly visited even on weekends, there were no significant waiting times with few exceptions. Due to capacity constraints, the longest waiting times were due to the grouped admission at the multi-lane slide Pistas Blandas. The two tire slides Black Hole and Rápidos, which are located close to the entrance, were also relatively well attended. On the big Tornado slide Cyclon, on the other hand, the hurdle was mostly due to the fact that you were only allowed to slide in groups of four.

In addition to the classic body slides Zig-Zag, the water park convinces above all with its Splash and Big Bang slide towers. The mat slides, like all kamikaze slides, are incredibly fun, but also demand a lot from you. But if you like it even a bit more extreme, you can throw yourself to the ground in VertiGo 28 or 33m with the best view of the city of Benidorm.
