Portsmouth (2019)

One year after I left the University of Portsmouth, I finally had my graduation. As some of my best friends are working for the University or at a company nearby Portsmouth, I took my time to meet them once more. We enjoyed a great visit to the Southsea branch of Brewhouse & Kitchen – my favorite pub –, before the big event on the next day. The local newspaper The News printed up every name of my course, but forgot the names of the three people who actually came to Portsmouth for Graduation. I hope that this was not intentional. Nevertheless, the graduation was a success and after we enjoyed some glasses of Champagner, we went on to a restaurant to enjoy a nice meal together.

Portsmouth (2018)

Four years after my Erasmus exchange year at the University of Portsmouth, I came back to the Solent for another time. Having a bachelor degree of my German University of Applied Sciences in hand, I now came to Portsmouth to get my MSc in a three trimester course. This time, however, I knew where I wanted to live and therefore I moved to Southsea. A decision, I’ve never regretted and would probably do again.

The gallery below shows the Historic Dockyard, Southsea and the view you can get from Portsdown Hill nearby the Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Southsea Common Fun Fair (2018)

It was once again Bank Holiday time and at the time of the Early May Bank Holiday, a funfair was set up on Southsea Common. Most of the rides, such as the Extreme Ride, came from Billy Danter. The ride was operated in a surprisingly varied way compared to Techno Power and without numb feet, the ride is twice as much fun.

The Sizzler, the Waltzer and probably also the Round-Up are from John Charles Matthews, who is responsible for the fair. All in all, there was a lot on offer here on the green meadow, although this could certainly be extended even further (after all, a large German funfair could easily be set up here). To my own surprise, there was even a real count. The runaway train was provided by Brandon Connell.

With a fantastic view towards Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth, I treated myself to a fun ride on the KMG Speed to finish off my visit to the Southsea Common Fun Fair.
