Alpine Coaster am Alpincenter Bottrop (2011)

After a successful fight against vampires in the newly opened Van Helsing’s Factory, we headed towards the city of Bottrop to visit the Alpincenter, located on a mountain with a considerable gradient.

The Alpincenter is quite well accepted, which surprised me a bit. The prices are a little high for some activities (for example for the seemingly easy high ropes course). Besides the usual activities on and around the ski slopes, there is the possibility to go indoor airdiving, play paintball or ride an Alpine Coaster.

The latter has a length of one kilometre and has some nice sections, including a steep curve that is a real challenge. During the ride you have to struggle with the vegetation in places, as some plants have decided to grow along the track. The ride itself is not bad and can therefore be taken along with you on your next visit to the theme park in Feldhausen.

Towards the end of the ride the weather worsened massively and thus we went on the lift towards the meanwhile very black clouds. Shortly before the end it started to rain slightly, before suddenly a quite strong storm broke out. Thereupon nobody was allowed on the lift for the time being and I raced to the car and even though it was only a few meters I got completely soaked.

Van Helsing’s Factory Speciaal

Movie Park Germany – Van Helsing’s Factory

The official opening

Shortly before 10 am I reached the park and immediately set off for the roller coaster. Since David, Thomas, and a few other people had the same idea, it didn’t take long until shortly after 11 am when park manager Wouter Dekkers came out of the hall and started the show.

The park put on a stunt show to match the story of the new roller coaster before the factory keys were handed over to Wouter Dekkers. Van Helsing, who has recently recorded increased vampire activity in Germany, is quite happy to have built his factory in the park to produce his ultimate vampire slaughter cars. But since Dracula’s army is not waiting, he takes us into one of the cars for the ride.

The ride

After Van Helsing asks you to choose a weapon in a short sequence, you are already on the chain lift. Through a small roof hatch we learn that it is full moon outside and not a second later the first vampire appears. This is followed by the for a Bobsled Coaster so charismatic curve descent. This is followed by the probably most intense hairpin curves you can imagine in complete darkness. To top it all off, small drops were introduced in between.

After this insane first part, we are already on the second lift. Animatronics come from the side and a huge vampire is already waiting for us. A helix follows and some pretty daring turns, similar to what you are used to from Gerstlauer lately. Shortly afterwards we enter the final brakes of the roller coaster with a surprising amount of speed.

Conclusion

In conclusion, when looking at Van Helsing’s Factory, it has to be said that Movie Park Germany has finally done everything right. The theming of the ride is a masterpiece, as is the roller coaster produced by Gerstlauer. The ride is simply fun and despite its comparatively low height and speed it is quite fast and intense.

A stopover at McPlay Freudenberg

McPlay Freudenberg

The McPlay Freudenberg in Freudenberg, South Westphalia, is not only a park that lists socks among its attractions, but also a children’s paradise where adults let their ADHD-suffering children play and pick them up again after some coffee and cake, completely exhausted.

Therefore, a visit for an adult and childless person is rather unattractive, unless you consider the two roller coasters in the park. The entrance fee here is three euros for adults and seven euros for the children, which is why the park has a very good price-performance ratio that I would like to see more often at other parks.

The Heege rides

The relevant rides for roller coaster and amusement park fans are products from SBF Visa and Heege. Here you can enjoy the extremely rare Heege Loopingstar – an inverting ferris wheel where you control your spin –, a round of intense airtime on the comet swing, or even take a ride on the Nautic Jet and the Butterfly.

Achterbahn

The larger roller coaster at McPlay Freudenberg is a mine-train coaster from the manufacturer SBF Visa. Instead of lorries, this small roller coaster offers airplanes as cars that dash over the track in the form of a simple eight lap by lap. The ride is quite funny to ride, and somehow more exciting than a Big Apple, which makes it a good addition for such a park.
